I picked this book up in WHSmith before I went to Spain and started reading it about a week ago. I finished it in 3 days and it’s definitely one to try. It’s actually part of a series by Alison Penton Harper, typical me, I started with the last book, but because of the way it’s written you don’t feel like you don’t know what’s going on.
The lead character is Helen, a newly wed, although that’s something she swore she’d never do again, having been married once before. She’s slowly adapting to being someones wife again but is desperate not to set herself up for a fall and have a husband who depends on her doing everything for him and then resents her when she doesn’t.
It’s also a book about friendships and sisterly love, something which is featured throughout the book. There’s Leoni her unhappily married no nonsense friend who likes drinking a little too much during the day (and night come to think of it), her sister Julia who is harbouring a huge secret that could rip the entire family apart and Helen soon finds herself embroiled in and Sara, Julia’s business partner and confidante and a sexy gay neighbour that has them all wishing they could “turn” him, some more successfully than others! Throw in a dad that you’ll wish was your own, a hubby that isn’t into subtlety, a crazy Russian housekeeper and a mother from hell and it’s chaos!
I found this book a little slow to start with, but once I got into it I couldn’t put it down. I will be seeking out the other books in the series and catching up on the stories I missed leading up to this one.
